about

Doug and Colin go back to their Symphonic and Classic Prog Rock roots for this new album and the theme is VIKINGS!
Each track is associated with an aspect of Viking Mythology or Cosmology.

According to Viking Cosmology, in the very beginning there was a Chaotic Void, called Ginnungagap, from out of which grew the World Tree, Yggdrasil, which held the Nine Worlds.

At the very top was Nifelheim, The Primordial World of Ice and far below was Muspelheim, The Primordial World of Fire. However, the Ice and Fire gradually crept towards the centre of the void and when they touched a giant called Ymir was formed, from whom many other beings were created. Upon Ymir's death (at the hands of Odin and his two brothers), his body was transformed into the earth

The blood became the oceans, rivers, and lakes.
The flesh became the land.
The bones became the mountains.
The teeth were made into rocks.
The hair became the grass and trees.
The eyelashes became Midgard - the World of Humans.

They threw the brain up in the air and it became the clouds, and the skull became the sky, Ymir’s skull would be the lid that covered the new world. The brothers grabbed some of the sparks shooting out from Muspelheim, the land of fire.

They threw the sparks up toward the inside of the skull, these sparks gleamed at night and this is what we call the stars. On the plains of Idavoll, they built Asgard, which would be the home of the Aesir Gods. Very far away from Asgard, in a place called Jotunheim, The World of the Giants.

Right next to Asgard was Alfheim, the World of the Elves and undergound was Svartalfheim - The World of the Dwarves.

There was also another mysterious world called Vanaheim - Realm of the Vanir Gods, whose location was unknown!

Asgard was usually believed to be up in the sky and was connected to Midgard by a Rainbow Bridge called Bifrost.

The Vikings also believed in a Heaven type world called Valhalla, where warriors who had fallen in battle went to carry on fighting and drinking in great halls.

Those who did not die an honourable death were sent to Hel or Helheim.

The Vikings believed that the Giants from Jotunheim and the Aesir Gods (along with the heroes from Valhalla) will fight each other in a Final Battle, called Ragnarok, during which most of the worlds and the beings within them will be destroyed, before a New Earth rises from the sea.
